Today, the historical presence of Priene stretches back to the 2nd millennium BC, while the city's most flourishing period, the 4th century BC, continues to enchant its visitors with captivating structures.
History and Significance of Priene
Priene gained importance from the 7th century BC and was considered one of the twelve Ionian cities. It is believed that the city was founded by Aepytos, the son of Kodros, the legendary founder of Athens. The ancient city is named Priene, which means "Castle Land."
