Have you ever seen such a beautiful sunset? Yesterday afternoon I had a sudden impulse to go somewhere for a swim, so I decided on going to Akbük for a change as I hadn't been there for a while and it was only a short 15 minute drive from Didim (if you go there by mini bus it’s about 20-25 mins). I don't normally like windy days especially when on the beach, but it was actually quite refreshing just sitting on the beach listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, gazing at the seagulls swooping and hovering above.
It wasn’t long before I wanted to swim, and although the water was lovely and warm, I didn’t enjoy the waves crashing on me splashing water over my face constantly and some of the waves were very high, so 10 minutes was enough for me. I much prefer calmer waters for swimming. After I had dried off a bit, I took a slow walk along the beautiful shoreline checking out the view and seeing which cafés and restaurants were open. Some looked as though they hadn’t opened at all this season and probably just as well as sadly, very few tourists came this year.
On my way back I stopped at Liberte café, as it was close to the sea, for a coffee. It wasn’t particularly busy but knowing the Turkish laid back lifestyle, especially in a quiet seaside town like Akbük, it was around 15 minutes before the owner came to take my order. It wasn’t a problem for me since I was busy taking shots and waiting for the sun to set as it was already descending.
As a sun-lover I love sunny days, sunrise and sunsets and since I have been in Didim I have witnessed some magnificent sunsets all year round. And, if you like boat trips you can take an early evening ‘Sunset’ trip in the evenings in September with Yakamoz boat (when Pre booked as a group min.PAX 20-25 ppl), which departs from Altınkum at 17.30 - 20.00 (the cost is 20 lira per person I believe). There is also a bar on board where you can buy beer, wine, snacks and soft drinks.
So if you are one that adores watchingG the sunset I can assure you you’ll enjoy an amazing experience whether you watch from Akbük, Altınkum, Mavişehir or the boat!
